So auther Martin Kielty has launched a new website HERE

where people can buy his updated Apollo Memories for £12+P&P. There's also a sample download

so you can get a taste of it before you buy.It's a bit of an experiment - print-on-demand is relatively new

So if Apollo Memories goes well then MK will look at self-publishing SAHB Story V2.

SAHB-STORY V2 is nearly finished so hopefully it will still surface, through his site.

Ian Rankin talk's S.A.H.B!

Author IAN RANKIN kindly gave us a wee exclusive about his early S.A.H.B fan days.

"I first came across SAHB when they appeared on OGWT - is it my imagination, or did they play Next with a string trio dressed in rubber fright masks?? I'd have been about fifteen, and it coincided with a visit to my sister outside Perth. A friend of hers had Next, and I listened to it. Typical, both women said, he's found the only 'dirty' record in the collection! I became a fan, and eventually tracked down a black and white striped rugby shirt that (on a hazy day) resembled Alex's. I also wrote Vambo Rools on all my school jotters, had a big poster of the band on my bedroom wall (next to one of Alice Cooper) and eventually got to see the band at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh. By this time it would be 1976 or 77 and I would be 16 or 17. The programme was a comic book featuring band members and during the show Alex stuck on a Hitler moustache and goosestepped through the polystyrene wall. (I took a bit of the fractured wall home with me to Cardenden; lost it sometime later). I still love the early stuff especially. Recently got hold of an early vinyl copy of Framed - I sold a lot of my vinyl when I was at university (I was skint), and after tapes and CDs have now come back round to it again. There always seems to be good SAHB stuff on ebay, though I got Framed at the Oxfam shop in Morningside (Edinburgh). I'm glad the band are still active, and was saddened to read about their loss of stage gear at the Victoria Street fire in Edinburgh in December. Impossible to really replace Alex though;he was a force of nature".

Ted's On The Radio!

Ted Mckenna has been interviewed about the upcoming 'Hot City' release

(Monday) - Leith Fm (Edinburgh) and BBC West Midlands Radio.(Tuesday) he is interviewed by Manchester Rock Radio.

I was told that two of them are pre-records and one on Monday was live,(No Information As To Which One)

Apparently Nicky Horne has been playing tracks for about a week now on his show on Planet Rock Radio.

He loves the album and wants an interview (yet to be arranged).

News re the 2 new S.A.H.B album's which are due out very soon!!

First out is - LIVE AT THE BBC which is due out February the 9th,A 2CD retrospective of all the surviving BBC recordings

on one release for the first time.

Featuring unreleased versions of tracks from the peak of the band’s success and includes

an unreleased version of the hit single Delilah alongside a storming cover of Sly Stone’s Dance to the Music.

The much anticipated release of the HOT CITY album is finally released on Monday MARCH 3Oth

The MLP PR machine has just started, so we expect some good media coverage in the next month or so!

The album is previously unreleased and unheard since 1974. All the photos in the booklet are previously unseen.

20th December - Update 2

The Bass Lives!!

The latest news regarding last night's fire at the SAHB gig at Edinburgh Liquid Rooms.

The fire started at the Indian restaurant next door and quickly spread through the roof space. The end result being the Liquid Rooms has all the water damage and the upstairs buildings fell in. SAHB appear to have lost most of their stuff including Ted's drum kit, Hugh's keyboards. It appears the lighting rig collapsed onto Ted's kit. One of the few things to survive was Chris's legendary bass guitar (2nd Fire it has survived) which is thanks to the quick thinking of Jon Morrison who grabbed what guitars he could and stored them in the external dressing room at the rear. It also turns out that Chris is a bit of a hero after stopping to help a woman who had fallen during the evacuation. Chris was then pushed to the ground and trampled over during the escape!!

As reported BRIGHTON POSTPONED and the EDINBURGH 2nd show GOES ON!!!!!

The 19th Dec gig was dramatically evacuated after the venue was severely damaged in last night's fire

TONIGHT'S GIG IS ON but has been RELOCATED to STUDIO 24 but sadly BRIGHTON has been POSTPONED!!

Finally Due For A Release Through MLP In March 2009.

Back In The Day,S.A.H.B's's Management Brought In Who And Kinks Producer Shel Talmy

With The Plan Of Trying To Bridge The Gap Between The Poppy Vibe Of Next And The live Vibe The Band Were looking For.Sadly, By The Time It Was Finished The Band Felt It Had Been A Failure, And The Tapes Were Binned. Later That Year The Impossible Dream Became SAHB's Third Album.Replacing the one which would have been called "Can't Get Enough".

Or At least We All Thought The Tapes Had Been Binned, Until Mike Dixon At MLP Visited Shel In The States And Came Back With The Original Masters,And Approval To Release The Album As It Had Been Intended. In Order To Build A little Tension, We Agreed Not To listen To The Album Until We Were Sitting Together, So That The Sleeve Notes You'll Read Consist Of The Guys' First Thoughts As They Hear The Work For The First Time In 34 Years!! For Obvious Reasons I Can't Show You The Sleeve Notes Here - You'll Have To Wait. But let Me Tell You This: As Far As We're All Concerned, This Is A Blinder Of An Album, And Something You Really Need To Hear.

There Are Comparisons With Songs That Made It Onto Impossible Dream - Watch Out For A killer Version Of Tomahawk Kid And Variants Of Vambo And Weights Made Of Lead . There Are Also Things Which Benefitted From The Time lag And The Chance To Re-Record (important elements of Vambo and Man In The Jar just ain't there). And There Are Some Things Which Hint A Direction SAHB Could Have Moved In, But Didn't (definite prog rock moments in Long Hair Music). Over The Top Is A literally Gobsmacking Performance From Alex. Chris Says - And We Agree - That If You're looking For Examples Of Alex At The Absolute Top Of His Game, It's Here In Shovelfuls.

In Early 1974, S.A.H.B Recorded A New Studio Album In London With legendary US Producer-Shel Talmy. This Album Centred On New Songs Based Around The Hot City Symphony. The Album Was Shelved At The last Minute Even Though The Whole Album Had Been Recorded And Mixed. Most Of The Song Titles Eventually Showed Up On The Official Album 'The Impossible Dream' Later That Year With A Different Producer On Board And The Songs Changed Dramatically. You Can Now Hear How The Album Sounded With The Original Versions Of These Songs. SAHB Fans Will Be Totally Surprised And Amazed At The Different Styles, Delivery And lyric Arrangements Of Well Known SAHB Songs Such As Vambo & Man In The Jar. There Are Two Versions Of Both Anthem And Tomahawk Kid And An Unreleased Song Not Heard Since 1974, When It Was Recorded-'Ace In The Hole'. This Album Features 11 Songs And Includes A 20-Page Booklet With Photos And liner Notes From The Band.

Chris Would Like It Known That He Has Made The Difficult Decision To Postpone The Upcoming Show At Glasgow's Oran Mor On 30th June, And All Being Well (MSG's Tour Schedule Allowing) He Will Reschedule It For September, Date And Info To Follow. Chris Sends His Sincere Apologies To Everyone Who Was Planning To Attend And To Special Guests Tigers On Vaseline, Who He Hopes Will Still Be Involved In The September Show. The Reason For This Is Due To Chris's Involvement With Michael Schenkers (MSG) Fast Approaching Tour Dates Which Is Taking Up More Of His Time Than First Anticipated.
